MALAYSIAN VISIT
KwaZulu Natal Country Bowls were privileged to be invited to spend a day with the Malaysian Commonwealth Bowls Team that was attending a five day coaching session at The Nest Hotel and Bowling Club recently. Simon Botha, ex Member of The Nest, has been appointed their official Coach and he was putting them through their paces.
Our representatives for the day were:-
Men: Hogart Gevers, Miskiet Ferreira, Dion Leaity, Jimmy Nel, Braam van Zyl and John Douthwaite.
Ladies: Nan Roos, Hanna Gevers, Alice Howe, Barbara Baleri, Michelle Steele and Samantha Shaw.
Interested spectators who spent the day observing were Ron Howe, Ann Wood, Monty Steele and Oscar Baleri. President Andrew and Secretary Dorothy also attended and are to be congratulated on setting up this event.
The day started with a 'warm up' in the form of dance routines, to get the blood flowing and this was followed by an hours practice on the Greens. Thereafter, three sessions of matches were held playing singles, fours, 2 bowl trips and 3 bowl pairs. The standard was very high and most matches were evenly contested. We came away with mixed results, holding our own against these 'professional' bowlers and now look forward to seeing how well they do at the Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow in July.
